New Year, New Hope.

Three years ago, a group of friends from Austin, Texas set out on a journey to work in one of Africa's largest slums, Kibera. During our time working at New Hope Primary School in Kibera, we saw a drastic need in the lives of the children. Nearly 100% of students in New Hope Primary School were dropping out after 8th grade, never continuing on to high school and giving up any hope for a future. Tuition fees jump from $45 a year for primary school to $250 a year for high school. For kids living in extreme poverty, being able to pay for a high school education is impossible. With broken hearts and a vision to see the lives of these children changed, Kibera Penda Project was formed. We promised the 8th grade students at the primary school that if they would study hard and pass their national exams, we would find a way to pay for them to go to high school.

Kibera Penda Project is THRILLED to announce that 30 students from New Hope Primary School passed their national exams this year and will be entering the New Hope Scholarship Fund!! These students will be joining the 32 already in the scholarship fund and will be attending high school for the 2011 year!!

These students are in need of sponsors who will partner with Kibera Penda Project to help send them to high school! If you are interested in joining the fight to help end poverty and would like more information on how to sponsor a student, email us at kiberapendaproject@gmail.com!
